Hello World!

Matt and I were commenting lately that we can hardly believe we've been married 11 1/2 years and that Samantha is 8 years old!  WHY we can't believe it is probably more denial than anything.  I think it's human nature to believe that life will go on forever, that we don't really age, that those nose hairs are a figment of our imagination, and that those extra trips to the bathroom in the middle of the night happen because we drank a lot of water that day.  We don't want to acknowledge that our children help us navigate our cell phones in half the time (even at 8 years old - and even though they don't yet own one), that we sometimes struggle to help them with 2nd grade math, that they love to ask us to do such things as "show me your best cartwheel mom" and "can you do this cool dance move?" - and we reply, "Sure, sure, I will/can but right now I'm just really, really busy with my nose hair trimmer.  Ultimately though,  the reason our family can't believe so much time has passed is because we live with MATT - who barrels through life at lightening speed, tripping over the hours, days, and weeks of our lives along with  furniture, stairs, dogs and himself!  I mean, who can keep up, let alone properly file it in the deep recesses of our mind?

Before we lose more of our already compromised brain matter, we agreed it was time to start up another family blog.  This way, when we can't remember what we did last week - or even yesterday - o.k., let's be honest, even a few hours ago, our much smarter, younger daughter can refer us back to our blog and say, "It's o.k. (insert mom or dad here).  You just need a little more coffee, right?  Do you want me to get you some?  Let's look back at the blog and it will help you remember."  And . . .don't think I'm just being funny here - she actually makes these types of comments on a somewhat regular basis.

Anyway, we've attempted a blog before - actually twice - and have always let it lapse.  No promises that it won't happen again; however, with Samantha's help, the odds are getting better!

I think each of us will write posts and the "author" will sign his/her name at the bottom.  Personally, I want to take full credit for my blog posts and don't want to take any responsibility for Matt's.  Samantha's will probably be the best and therefore we will limit those as much as possible.  We can't have an 8 year old showing us up -it just wouldn't be good for our self esteem.

Here's to the adventure!

Sheryl
